Hundreds of buildings in the dark over Earth Hour in China

Hundreds of buildings have been switching off their lights for an hour as part of a global effort to draw attention to climate change.

China participated in the annual Earth Hour campaign at the Great Wall of China in the north of Beijing, China, Saturday, March 31, 2012.

China participated in the annual Earth Hour campaign, with selected landmark buildings across the country going dark. In Shanghai, the City Hall, Oriental Pearl TV Tower and Shanghai World Financial Center dimmed their lights.

In Hong Kong, buildings along Victoria Harbour also went dark. In Taipei, Taiwan's tallest building, called the Taipei 1-0-1, also plunged into darkness. In the Indonesian capital Jakarta, the national monument was briefly dimmed and so too were many of the buildings surrounding the Hotel Indonesia roundabout. In Australia's Sydney, the Harbour Bridge and Opera House also went dark.
