Already tense U.S. and NATO ties with Afghanistan have just been dealt another blow after photographs surfaced of US soldiers posing with the maimed bodies of dead Afghan insurgents.
The Los Angeles Times published several pictures showing soldiers from the 82nd Airborne Division posing with remains of suspected suicide bombers in Afghanistan’s Zabol province.
The photos date from February 2010, and are thought to have come from a US soldier "to draw attention to the safety risk of a breakdown in leadership and discipline" among American troops.
The photos are likely to stir up more anti-Western sentiment in Afghanistan as NATO combat troops look to withdraw from the country in 2014.
