Strong winds and sand storms have lashed northwest China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. The winds exceed 100 km per hour, and have caused trains to be postponed and roads to be closed. The wind speed hit a record-high of 211 km per hour.
These have been the fastest winds since 1963. Visibility has dropped to less than 10 meters due to the dust and the winds have even cut electricity to some areas.
The local meteorological authorities say this extreme weather will last until Sunday night.
