The first tourist train route from China to the DPRK is set to link Tumen in northeast China's Jilin Province, to Mount Chilbo in the DPRK's northeast Hamgyong Province.
It will set off later today with 65 travellers on board for an organized tour. The four days five nights trip is scheduled to run every Thursday and costs 1,900 Chinese yuan, or about 300 US dollars per person.
The train route provides a safer travel option for tourists, delivering them to their destination overnight and freeing them from troublesome bus transfers. Mount Chilbo is known for its scenic beauty and the resort has lined up gymnastics performances staged by DPRK children and professionals for visitors.
