Parts of Europe have been experiencing some of the hottest temperatures to hit the continent so far this year.
In the French capital Paris, tourists and locals alike gathered around a fountain next to the Eiffel Tower. Dozens of bathers cooled off in the fountain while others dipped their bare feet in the water.
Temperatures in Paris reached around 36 degrees Celsius by Sunday afternoon. In Germany, temperatures soared to 40 degrees and people took advantage of the good weather to go walking in the mountains or take leisurely boat trips on the lakes.
A high-pressure system bringing hot air up from Africa is responsible for the unusually high temperatures.
