And what's on your Christmas wishlist? Always best to tell Santa in person so he won't let it slip given the millions of letters he gets from children around the world. And that's exactly what visitors to his home in Lapland are doing, meeting the man himself, where the elves are working hard ahead of the Big Day. Some are delighted to find he can even converse with them in their own language.

This is winter wonderland with a difference - for here, inside the Arctic Circle, is Santa's village.

Rovaniemi in Lapland is home to not only Santa but his army of elves who are busily preparing to deliver Christmas gifts to millions of children around the globe.

People have come from the four corners of the globe to meet Santa and watch his elves at work.

Even at this time of year, his busiest time, jolly old Santa greets as many visitors, both young and old, as he can.

School boy Tommaso Alia said, "He is nice and I wanted to come here to see him. And I would like to come back the day after I return to school next week."

A love for Santa isn't limited to children.

Friends Sue Wachin and Sue Waiyan from Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia say they were amazed by Santa - especially his grasp of world languages - including Malay.

Some people bring presents, pictures and cards for Santa, and they often have requests of their own.

Santa says what is asked for has not changed too much over the years - despite the growth in video games, smart phones and tablet technology:

Santa Claus said, "Of course a lot of the modern technology has come into picture. But the traditional way has still very strongly remained the same. The boys are asking for things with sound, loud, and engines, and motor, lorries and trucks and things and games. And then the girls are asking for books, clothes and dolls. More soft things."

Of course not everyone can visit Santa in person, which is why one of the most important parts of Santa's village is the Post Office.

Every year half a million or more letters are written to Santa from every part of the globe.

He reads many of them and answers as many as possible but leaves some of the work to his helpers like Elf Heidi.

And now Santa has made his delivery list and checked it twice, and has found out who has been naughty and who has been nice this year.

He harnesses Rudolph to the sleigh and loads up with presents - ready to head off for his annual delivery.
