Volkswagen, the biggest foreign automaker in China by sales, will recall 384,000 vehicles in the country to overhaul a long-standing gearbox bug.

China's top consumer goods quality supervisor said on Wednesday the recall would start on April 2, covering a wide range of models such as Passat, Golf, Touran made by the German automaker’s Chinese ventures, as well as imported models, including Audi A3 cars made between February 2010 and June 2011.

Volkswagen's China spokesman has not yet made any comment on that to the press. The recall comes after Volkswagen’s gearbox bug was mentioned in CCTV’s annual investigative special report on corporate malpractices aired last Friday.
