New details have been released in regards to the violent clash that killed 21 people in Northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on Tuesday.

According to local officials, three community workers spotted a group of people watching videos about terror activities in a house in Bachu county. They alerted local authorities, but were killed before police officers arrived.

As police and other community workers reached the house, they were ambushed. The police chief, who was the only person armed with a pistol, fired six bullets, but could not prevent the police and community workers from getting cornered into a room.

The terrorists sealed the room, poured petrol and set the house on fire, leaving the people inside to burn to death. More police officers arrived afterwards. They killed six terrorists and arrested eight more.
