Three Chinese maritime surveillance ships have expelled Japanese vessels from territorial waters surrounding the Diaoyu Islands, according to the official website of China's State Oceanic Administration.
Earlier on Sunday, the Associated Press news agency reported that 30 Japanese right-wing nationalists had sailed towards the Diaoyu Islands on four fishing boats. The Japanese activists said they were going to fish in the are, and patrol the islands.
China's State Oceanic Administration says its surveillance flotilla monitored the Japanese vessels and took evidence of their violations before expelling them.
