South Korean President Park Geun-hye has arrived in Beijing for a four-day state visit to China. She will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Keqiang and other top Chinese leaders, with the situation on the Korean Peninsula high on the agenda.

The South Korean government says Park's visit aims to carry out dialogue with China, promote mutual trust between the two countries, and strengthen their strategic partnership. It also says the visit will review bilateral ties over the past 21 years since diplomatic relations were established, and draw up a blueprint for building a constructive relationship for the next two decades.

Chinese scholars say a highlight of the visit will be negotiations on restarting the six-party talks over the DPRK's nuclear program, and promoting peace and stability in northeast Asia. Park is accompanied by a delegation of 71 business representatives, in a bid to enhance economic and trade relations with China. The president is also scheduled to visit Xi'an City in northwest China, an ancient Chinese capital of four dynasties.
