Just weeks after its half a billion-dollar takeover by Chinese property giant Dalian Wanda, Sunseeker Yachts, has launched three new power boats. In a glitzy show playing up the luxury line's British roots the three new boats were unveiled for an audience at the Southampton Boat Show – the biggest annual event on Britain's South Coast. Richard Bestic was there.

A song and dance is perhaps to be expected when launching the latest in ‘must-have' toys for the world's super rich.

The not so subliminal message here – we might now be Chinese-owned, but these billionaire's playthings remain the best of British.

Even so, there's some sweet sorrow for the man who founded Sunseeker 50 years ago..:

"The costliest of the new Sunseekers tops $5 million. And the price tag brings with difficulties in a competitive global market." said Robert Braithwaite, Sunseeker founder.

There's a problem for UK companies like Sunseeker, because these giant toys are becoming increasingly sophisticated and as a consequence require ever rising levels of investment.

"By signing up to Dalian Wanda, Sunseeker can wave goodbye to money worries."said Stewart Macintyre, Sunseeker managing director.

The new owners holding a potential ocean of cash for pricey research and development.

At the same time, they're unlikely to move operations East. These craft require specialist skills built up in Britain over decades.

Sunseeker says its unique partnership with Dalian Wanda will secure production and jobs in Britain for the next half century.
