Police in central China hold anti-terrorism drill

Special forces of police from four provinces in central China held a joint anti-terrorism drills in Wuhan on Tuesday. They simulated hostage taking by terrorists and carried out maneuvers to subdue them.

An explosion is reported at a railway station. Five terrorists wielding long knives hack innocent civilians. Special police immediately seal the site, and kill the terrorists.

The exercise is far from over.

Another group of terrorists casually disguised as civilians kill a guard. They steals a rifle and begin shooting passers-by.

A terrorists sets up explosives in a building and holds ten workers hostage.

Speical police immediately cordoned off the scene, and snipers take up position around the building. They cut off the building's gas and electricity, block radio transmissons to to prevent explosives being remotely detonated.

Experts begin negotiating with terrorists. A helicopter drops a SWAT team onto the building. Sensing the police negotiator is stalling, the terrorist prepare to kill a hostage.

Tension escalate to the breaking point and the commander orders his forces to strike.

Police kill four terrorists, captured one and seize a rifle and 5 knives; the hostages are rescued.

"We are now facing a serious challenge from terrorists. This drill is aimed at improving the capacity of special forces police in dealing with terrorist activities. We will explore more substantive cooperation with other provinces to expand the scope of this anti terrorism campaign." Said Guo Tangyin, Deouty Head of Hubei Provincial Public Security Burea.

Four provinces -- Henan, Hubei, Hunan and Jiangxi-- participated in the drill organized by the Ministry of Public Security. It's the first large-scale joint exercise among police forces from central provinces. Some 380 police officers are participating in the drill, which ends Thursday.
