Also in the spotlight is the Shoton Festival, which kicked off on Monday in Lhasa, Tibet. A great Buddha display is being held at the Drepung Monastery on the outskirts of Lhasa, attracting a large number of worshippers and tourists.

A 500-square-meter traditional Tibetan painting of the great Buddha is positioned on a hillside near Drepung Monastery.

The Great Buddha Display marks the beginning of the Shoton Festival, which also features Tibetan opera shows and other theatrical performances.
