Cooperation between Chinese and foreign publishers was one of the highlights of the 21st Beijing International Book Fair, which wrapped up over the weekend.

The 21st Beijing International Book Fair has just wrapped up over the weekend with cooperation between Chinese and foreign publishers being one of the event's highlights.

Compared with previous editions, the cooperation has gone further than merely copyright trades — Chinese and foreign publishers are planning to cooperate to release foreign language education books.

Beijing International Book Fair is now in its 21st year, and participant publishers remain dedicated to their mission — bringing books from around the world to China.

The Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press, the largest foreign language publisher in China, has collaborated with Cambridge University Press for more than two decades. This year, the two publishing houses have deepened their cooperation. They will release a collection of original English academic books for English teachers and learners in China.

"More and more English teachers and learners in China want to get access to original English teaching books. This collection of books offers just what they need and more, like the most advanced teaching and learning methods," Foreign Language Teaching & Research Press Deputy Director Wang Gang said.

Meanwhile, the eighth edition of the Oxford Advanced Learners' English-Chinese Dictionary has been released by China's Commercial Press and the Oxford University Press at the book fair.

The latest edition includes more than 5,000 newly coined terms as well as encyclopedic entries.

"The Commercial Press and the Oxford University Press began cooperating in 1979. In the past 35 years, we have released eight editions of the dictionary, and each edition features changes that reflects changes in China," Commercial Press Manager Yu Dianli said.

According to Yu, the two publishers will also cooperate in digital publishing in the future.
