Former "East Enders" actress Barbara Windsor was there to unveil the statue. Amy's father, jazz musician Mitch Winehouse, said the day brought a feeling of mixed emotions.

"When I saw it first of all I was very tearful. But it's like every other day you know. We're at the foundation, going to the office, the stuff, obviously Amy memorabilia all over the place and we get a bit tearful and then ten minutes later we're laughing and joking about -- her antics because she was a joker. So it's a day of mixed emotions and it's a week of mixed emotions because my son just presented me, and my daughter in law, presented me with a baby boy. So it's wonderful really," Amy's father Mitch Winehouse said.

When asked what Amy would make of today's unveiling, her mother Janis had this to say.

"She would have said, what's the fuss about? Yeah, cause Amy was not one for fuss. She did not grab the headline. Amy was just [makes noise] just 'I'm behind'. Cause that was Amy. She was no glory seeker," Amy's mother Janis Winehouse said.

The statue was created by sculptor Scott Eaton and shows Winehouse posing with one hand resting on her hip and features her trademark 'beehive' hairstyle.

"She's so well known that you have to, my challenge was to really not just know the superficial Amy Winehouse, which is the things that you see in the photographs, the paparazzi, the beehive, the eye makeup but to really try and understand the personality and the character and the attitude and I sat down with the family and I talked to them a lot, listened to her music, her music videos. A lot of the research that goes into and forming the snapshot, kind of that instant in time that you have to capture in a sculpture," Sculptor Scott Eaton said.

Initially it was planned to have the statue erected at the nearby Roundhouse music venue but is now at the Stables Market, which is part of Camden Market, a well loved tourist destination.

Winehouse died more than three years ago on July 23 at the age of 27.

The "Rehab" and "Back to Black" singer fought a long battle with alcoholism and drug use. An inquest found that she had more than five times the legal driving limit of alcohol in her blood when she was found in her North London home.

Her family have since set up a foundation in honor of the singer which aims to help young people, including providing support for those battling addiction.
