The new logo for the 2018 World Cup in Russia was presented for the first time yesterday. FIFA president Sepp Blatter appeared on a Russian state TV talk show to discuss and promote the tournament emblem, which he said will show the country's "heart and spirit".

The new logo for the 2018 World Cup in Russia was presented for the first time yesterday.

In that live late chat show, the 2018 World Cup logo was presented to the public and was a part of a light show projection on the facade of Russia's historic Bolshoi Theatre.

The logo, which was unveiled by the Russian cosmonaut Maxim Surayev in a live broadcast from the international space station 400 kilometers above Earth, represented a ball surrounded by the elements of traditional Russian decor in the shape of the World Cup trophy. FIFA President Blatter believes the 2018 event will be even better than the 2014 edition in Brazil.

"We have just faced an exceptionally good World Cup in 2014 in Brazil. Russia 2018 will be better; will be better because football, will improve during the four years, and I'm sure it will be a wonderful fiesta of the football of the different continents. And they will prepare, they will prepare now the teams to say that we must be ready when it comes to Russia," Blatter said.

"Firstly, there were four emblems which were given for the final decision and the choice was quite easy because there was one emblem, for me, which gives the feeling immediately that you are talking about Russia," said Jerome Valcke, FIFA secretary general

"That the colors are Russian, that the spirit of the way it was designed or it is designed means Russia. And I think each of us has a different vision of Russia; either it's through the literature of Russia, either it's through the monuments of Russia, either it's St Petersburg or Moscow or the cities. And when you choose an emblem it's something where you and look and you say that's the one. So, for me, there was only one where I had this feeling that it brought together."
