As we just mentioned, Tuesday marks the International Anti-domestic violence day. The issue, which is traditionally seen by many in China as a private matter, has now seen the rule of law step in as the first draft of legislation dealing with domestic violence is set to be released.

A report that was released on Monday by the All-China Women's Federation, who met to discuss domestic violence, show that among women between 18-49 years old, 39 percent claimed to have suffered from physical or sexual violence from their partner, and 38 percent used to suffer mental abuse.

The report also showed that only 35 percent of the victims told family members about the violence, and only 7 percent of them called police. The report also said that women who suffer domestic violence are 2 to 3 times more likely to commit suicide, and experience depression and miscarriages.
