Traffic on the main roads of Hong Kong's Mong Kok district was flowing on Wednesday after bailiffs and agents of minibus and taxi drivers' associations cleared barricades and tents erected by demonstrators on Nathan Road.

The clearance followed the reopening of Argyle Street on Tuesday. A police spokesman said 148 people were arrested, including 55 for contempt of court over the past two days.

The High Court of Hong Kong initially granted a preliminary injunction to ban demonstrators from occupying roads in Mong Kok on October 20th, after groups of minibus and taxi operators complained of paralyzed roads. There have been further injunctions since. Hong Kong authorities have called on protesters to leave the area as soon as possible and to allow law-enforcement staff to carry out their duties.

"Police are assisting bailiffs to carry out the court injunctions to clear the roads. If it is necessary, the police can also exercise its power under the Laws of Hong Kong. All police in Hong Kong have the right and obligation to perform their duties," Rimsky Yuen with Hong Kong Secretary Of Justice said.
