In the entertainment industry, one of the biggest, most loyal audience bases comes from a certain part of the population: children. Every year, they honor their favorite stars and shows at the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards.

Adam Sandler slimes actor Josh Gad

The types of shows and actors nominated – from movies, television and music – represent what stands out to children these days.

Grant Gustin, who stars in The Flash, was nominated in the Favorite Family TV show category and Favorite TV Actor. He talked about what it meant to get recognition for the crime-fighting speedy superhero he plays.

"It's amazing. We're in our first season and the response has been so positive. We weren't sure what to expect so we love making the show and the fact that people love watching it makes us, makes me really happy. It's what I've always wanted to do and I'm lucky to do it and I feel like I don't even really go to work. I mean I just get to have fun every day," he said.

Exuberant Nickelodeon star 12-year-old Benjamin Flores Jr. was also nominated for Favorite TV Actor for the wholesome paranormal family comedy, The Haunted Hathaways.

He said, "I'm keeping it real classy. Versace right here, I got some Armani sneakers. Some nice fancy Levi's and some bling-bling! My favorite part about the awards show is actually meeting the fans. I can go up to them and shake their hands and just to see their faces and winning!"

The host of Nickelodeon's biggest night was pop singer Nick Jonas. He not only hosted but he ended up getting slimed by Jennifer Lopez after winning the award for Favorite Male Singer.

The cast of Modern Family also received a well-timed sliming when they accepted the award for Favorite Family TV Show.

Favorite Movie went to The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1. Emma Stone and Liam Hemsworth collected prizes for Favorite Movie Actress and Favorite Male Action Star.

Because the KCA's are all about children having full authority for a day, the cast of one of Nickelodeon's most popular shows, Every Witch Way, had strong opinions about what would happen if children ruled the entertainment world all the time.

"There wouldn't be any negativity; it would be a much happier place. It would be pretty cool and I would like to live there. There would be so much creativity and I think bringing a new energy and new creativity is just so much fun. You guys just took all the words out of my mouth, thank you! I do not have to waste any more energy now."

Favorite TV Actress nominee Chloe Bennet from Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. had a different perspective on what would happen if children took charge.

"I think it would be utter chaos, to be completely honest. I mean, it's craziness here! But it would be fun; it would probably be a bit more fun. I want to thank everyone so much for voting; that's so awesome because the fans make a huge difference and I love you all! Thank you."

The show will air on different days around the world. It will air April 11 at 2p.m., with Chinese subtitles, on MTV China.

The Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards is the only place where everyone in Hollywood – regardless of actual age – can really be proud to embrace and unleash their inner child.

Celebrating imagination, spontaneity, and pure creativity, this vibrant awards show continues to set an example of the best part of staying a child at heart.
