Sandstorms have been sweeping across China's northern regions.
In north China's Inner Mongolia a yellow alert was issued in what was expected to be the strongest sandstorm to hit the region this spring.

Sandstorms also swept across the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region starting from Tuesday afternoon, forcing suspension of traffic and construction work. In oil drilling areas, visibility was reduced to less than ten meters.
Forecasters warned that cities and provinces in northern and northeastern China would also be affected by sandstorms.
The Central Meteorological Agency also forecast a sharp temperature drop of up to 14 degrees in northern China on Wednesday.
