Official statistics show that nearly 12 million trips occured on the railway on Friday alone, the very first day of the vacation. This is 11.6 percent higher than last year. Now, if you're looking to join the travel fever without leaving the comfort of your home, CCTV has set up broadcast locations around the country's most popular tourist attractions to bring the fun to you.

May Day tourism has seen new highs

First up, we head to Jiuzhai valley located in Northern Sichuan. The national park is home to nine Tibetan villages, 220 bird species as well as a number of endangered plant and animal species, including the giant panda. And it's best known for its fabled blue and green lakes, spectacular waterfalls and its unique wildlife. As you've seen, the place speaks for itself.

Now we head further down south to Shenzhen's Dameisha beach side resort. Admittedly, this is NOT the place for natural beauty or a sense of quietude. You come here to party. Just remember to bring enough sunscreen for you and your significant other.

And finally, we come back to the Chinese capital for a visual and cultural feast. The Summer Palace is the largest and most well-preserved royal park in China. It covers an expanse of 2.9 square kilometres, three quarters of which is water. Plus, it's located not far from some of China's most prestigious universities such as Tsinghua & Peking University. You can always head there afterwards for a bit of intellectual inspiration.
