Singapore Fashion Week opened on Wednesday and renowned designer Diane Von Furstenberg opened the show with her iconic wrap dresses that she often explores, nipped in at the waste or wrapped round to flatter the figure.

Speaking after the show, the designer talked about how thrilled she was to be showing her latest collection in Singapore and explained the specific inspiration behind the collection.

"It's such an exciting place and it has changed so much in the last five years. So it's very exciting that they have fashion week and that they asked me to come and open it, so I'm very excited."

"This collection is called Seduction. It's all types of seduction. It's the confidence of a woman who walks into a boardroom and makes a presentation and is confident, but seduces with her strength. And then as the night goes on she shows more and more vulnerability and more and more intimacy," said Diane Von Furstenberg, the designer.

The palettes used were mostly dark, with interjections of block primary colors such as blues and reds. Tailoring included trench coats and a more traditional style suit, often coupled with office-appropriate handbags.

Dresses were made of silk or lace, and coats lined with a fur trim. Fluffy jumpers worn with tights added a playful element to the collection. Hair was pulled back to provide an androgenic feel.

Von Furstenberg also shared some advice for upcoming Asian designers:

"I think that what I would say to Asian designers is that you have to understand that the biggest market is really in Asia. Sometimes when you are local, you have to get the support of the local stores and the local press."

"And sometimes in order to do that you have to go abroad, get the exposure abroad, so it legitimizes you. But at the end, what I want to say to all Asian designers is that the biggest market is in Asia."

Singapore Fashion Week runs from May 13th until the 17th, and includes collections from Von Furstenberg, Victoria Beckham and Thakoon.
