The world's largest Disney store has opened its doors in Shanghai, and fans flocked to the store on the opening day to pick up their favorite characters.

World's biggest Disney store opens in Shanghai

The store sits right beside the city's landmark Oriental Pearl TV Tower, and covers an area of nearly 900 square meters, with a large plaza outside. A special collection of Mickey Mouse dolls attracted many fans.

"I've been to Disneylands in the United States and Japan. Today I came here to buy the limited edition Mickey Mouse doll here. Each customer can buy one only," a visitor said.

Most of the 2,000 products here are only available in Disney stores. Managers say the area attracts about 40 million people every year.

"We have a very large Disney resort coming in very soon. This is an area of emphasis for us. We think that there is a lot of demand here for Disney. So this is not in competition with what we do in the park. It's complementary," said Paul Candland, president, Walt Disney Company, Asia.

A Disney store is usually a dream world for children who love cartoon and toys. But managers say with more diversified products, they hope to attract adults as well as kids.

The store has also introduced accessories, including fashionable jewelry and smart-phone cases. It also has a corner selling Marvel Comics products. But some say they expect to see more types of souvenirs in the future.

"Many products here are still for children. I wanted to choose a T-shirt for myself but couldn't find one. Besides, I like collecting Disney pins, but they are not here yet," a visitor said.

The Shanghai Disneyland is scheduled to open early next year. The top of its castle was just completed on Tuesday. But park officials say they are still deciding on ticket prices.
