China's Ministry of Commerce said on Wednesday that since Chinese firms have not been permitted to export rice to Indonesia since 2008, they have nothing to do with the plastic rice scare in Indonesia. The ministry said that in accordance with WTO rules and China's commitments, Chinese rice exports are subject to "state trading" and quotas.

Under "state trading," only two companies are allowed to export rice and these haven't exported any rice to Indonesia since 2008. Indonesia has been gripped by fears of PVC contamination in rice available in some areas, leading to speculation that some of it may have come from China.
