China has confirmed its first infection of the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome, more commonly known as MERS.
According to health authorities, 44-year-old South Korean man currently under quarantine in south China's Guangdong province has been diagnosed as infected. The man flew from South Korea to Hong Kong on Tuesday and then went to Huizhou in neighboring Guangdong by bus.
A team of medical experts have been dispatched to Guangdong to assess the situation. Health authorities have been monitoring 38 people who've had close contact with the man. None have so far shown symptoms. Meanwhile, health officials in Hong Kong say they are ready to trace about 200 passengers who could've come into contact with the man on the flight and the bus.
