China top meteorological authority on Sunday continued its blue alert for heavy rain. It was the fifth straight day the warning was issued in several provinces in East and Central China, as well as the city of Shanghai.

East coast seriously affected by rainstorms

In multiple areas of Jiangsu and Anhui provinces, precipitation reached record highs, causing many rivers and dams to hit flood alarm levels. In urban areas, flooding from torrential rain paralyzed traffic and trapped local residents. The heavy downpours have also caused highway closures and flight cancellations.

The weather bureaus have also warned of secondary disasters, such as landslides, in mountainous areas.
