Senior CPC official attends commemoration events

Liu Yunshan, a senior official of the Communist Party of China has represented China at anniversary celebrations in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. Along with DPRK leaders, he attended events marking the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Workers' Party of Korea.

Liu is a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee. He joined leaders of the DPRK, led by the ruling party's First Secretary Kim Jong Un, and some 100,000 Pyongyang residents in watching military and civilian parades on the Kim II Sung Square in the heart of Pyongyang. On Saturday morning, Liu met top legislator Kim Yong Nam.

They exchanged views on inheriting and carrying forward the traditional friendship between the two parties and the two countries. Liu also paid a visit to the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun, where he presented floral tributes at the statues of late leaders Kim II Sung and Kim Jong II.

He visited the Memorial Museum of the Victory of Fatherland Liberation War in Pyongyang, and the exhibition hall of the Chinese People's Volunteers who fell in action in the 1950-1953 Korean War.

On Sunday morning, Liu paid his respects at a cemetery for the volunteers in Anju.

He later visited a corn-processing plant in Pyongyang, and watched a performance celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Worker's Party.
