A new revolution in the fashion industry is on its way. Recently there's a cutting-edge 3D mirror that is able to scan a woman's body to calculate her perfect bra size.

3D mirror unhooks secret to perfectly fitting bra

A 3D mirror scanning a woman's physique to calculate the perfect bra size, it may sound like a science fiction, but it is indeed what truly happens in a Hong Kong store.

The high-tech device, installed in a fitting room, takes 140 measurements in less than a minute. What the client needs to do is a 360-degree turn.

This is after being measured by a stylist with a tape.

store manager Lui Tong said she hoped this would change the way women were fitted for their first layer of clothing.

"Based on research, there are 70 percent of women wearing the wrong bra. But what makes it wrong, you know, what makes it right? I think the most important thing is having objective measurement. Going forward we're looking at expanding the installation of 3D mirrors into all our stores. And develop this technology into something even more accessible to everyone," Liu Tong, general manger of Rigby and Peller HK, said.

This high-end project has been in the works for four years, with more than 300 women participating to work out an algorithm that finds the perfect size for women of all shapes and sizes.

A further six mirrors are available in their shops in Europe, and are soon to be installed in Abu Dhabi.

The new technology manages to enhance the customer experience and help take more accurate measurements.

One regular customer is Monique Ku, who said she loved the innovative approach to bra shopping.

"There were times when I went to shop for bras, the shop assistant would measure your size while you're still wearing a bra. That wasn't very accurate. But when I shop here, the measurements are accurate. The bras fit well and they fit closely to my body," Customer Monique Ku said.

Security is something that the shop takes very seriously -- staff delete all images in front of the client, while saving the measurements for future purchases. that potentially helps the company develop more products tailored for Asian bodies in the future.

"I'm not scared (the photos might leak). They delete everything in front of you. I feel confident it's okay," Ku said.

This innovative 3D tech is believed to be the beginning of a technology revolution. More and more companies would make better use of the technology and look for hi-tech ways of body measurement in the future.
