The Korean Central Television has said the Democratic People's Republic of Korea has successfully launched a Kwangmyongsong-4 satellite on Sunday morning. South Korea's Yonhap News Agency reports the DPRK has launched a long-range missile this morning and appears to have put an object into orbit.
The rocket was launched from DPRK's Tongchang-ri rocket launch station. South Korea's Defence Ministry said it was tracking the flight path of the rocket to determine whether the launch was a success.
The United Nations Security Council will hold an emergency meeting today in New York to discuss the issue.
