Six people have died and eight others remain missing since Typhoon Nepartak made landfall on the Chinese mainland on Saturday.

Firemen carry out rescue work at a gas station destroyed by landslide in Zhangping, southeast China's Fujian Province, July 10, 2016. Two people have died and 17 remain missing after Typhoon Nepartak made landfall and swept through east China's Fujian Province, authorities said Sunday. [Xinhua]

Officials in East China's Fujian and Jiangxi provinces evacuated over 200-thousand people from ten cities, as rainstorms and gale force winds destroyed around 1,900 homes. Jiangsu province is also facing a grim flood situation following the typhoon. The local government opened flood gates along Taihu Lake to lower water levels along the lake's banks.

Typhoon Nepartak has weakened greatly, but more heavy rain is still forecast for Fujian, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Jiangxi provinces.
