Apple will boost its investment in China, and build its first Asia-Pacific research and development center in the country. That was the word Tuesday from Apple CEO Tim Cook during a trip to Beijing.
News of the R&D center comes as demand for Apple's iPhones has plummeted in the world's largest consumer market. Apple's new R&D center will be built by the end of the year.
The location of the center hasn't been announced yet but it will unite Apple's engineering and operations teams in China and is also intended to deepen ties to partners and universities.
