The 11th International Film Festival concluded here on Sunday with awards going to their winners.

Around 18,000 people have attended the 12-day festival, showcasing nearly 90 movies from 30 countries and regions.

The American film "Prince of Broadway," directed by Sean Baker, won the best movie in the "Competitive Line Up" that features 10 films from different countries.

Elsa Amiel from France won the best actress for her outstanding performance in "Nowhere Promise Land."

The best Brazilian movie went to "Sunstroke," which was co-directed by Felipe Hirsch and Daniela Thomas and recently premiered at the Venice Film Festival. It tells of stories of unrequited love.

Internationally acclaimed Japanese director Ryuichi Hiroki, who earned his fame worldwide for "It's Only Talk," told Xinhua that he sees no barriers for the western audience to understand an oriental movie.

The festival paid tribute to Hiroki, showing five of his films, including the "April Bride" that moved women viewers to tears.

"We may not understand some cultural points in foreign movies, but this is a problem from country to county," he said.

"This is not negative to me, otherwise, it may enrich the movie. People may be more interested in a foreign culture and will look for more information for a better understanding of the movie," he added.

The annual event, which takes place in late October or early November, is regarded as one of the most important Brazilian movie festivals.
