April-7-2010

A man was caught in southeast China's Fujian Province on Monday for allegedly holding eight people, including three newborn babies, at knifepoint at a hospital ward while on the run after killing his ex-brother-in-law and injuring his ex-wife and a guard.

The hostages were all rescued safely and the 10 police officers who made the rescue were awarded for excellent performance, China National Radio reported.

Police in Fuzhou, Fujian's capital, got a kidnapping report at 10:28am at the Jiangtai District No.1 Hospital.

The police soon linked the case to a murder report earlier Monday morning. A man surnamed Zhan, 28, was killed and his sister and a community guard were injured. The attacker was allegedly the sister's husband surnamed Zeng, who was divorced on April 1.

At 12:20pm, talks failed between Zeng and the police. Police sent 10 officers to force into the ward. They successfully caught Zeng and rescued all the victims.
