April-10-2011

The police of central China's Henan Province announced Saturday that they have closed investigations on the tainted pork in a subsidiary of China's largest meat producer.

The case has been solved successfully with 95 people involved being brought into police custody. The illegal farm that produced the fat-burning drug clenbuterol was also destroyed, said a senior official with Henan's public security department, who declined to be named.

Shuanghui Group's subsidiary in Jiyuan City, Henan, was exposed to have used pork tainted with the fat-burning drug clenbuterol in its products on March 15. The police seized 14 people on the day, the official said.

By March 29, the police had all suspects in custody. They were caught in the provinces of Hubei, Henan, Shaanxi and Jiangsu, he said.

The clenbuterol was produced in a pig farm in Baquan Village of Xiangyang City in central China's Hubei Province, the official said.

He identified the chief suspects as a person surnamed Liu from Xiangyang, Hubei Province, and a person surnamed Xi who lived in Changzhou City of east China's Jiangsu Province.
