China is experiencing the forth "single" tide, according to Urban Single Woman's Living report written by Chen Yaya, associate researcher of Shanghai Academy of Social Science, The Guangzhou Daily reports. 《广州日报》消息,上海社会科学院助理研究员陈亚亚的《都市单身女性的生存状态考察》指出,中国正经历第四次单身潮。
There were three tides of being single in the history of People's Republic of China. By the end of 20th century, with the rapid development of economy and the improvement of women's independent awareness, the fourth single trend appeared. More and more women voluntarily choose to be single and they have promoted the "single economy." 中国内地之前曾出现过三次单身潮,到了20世纪末,随着经济的飞速发展和女性自主意识的提升,第四次单身浪潮逐渐显现。主动选择单身的“单女”明显增多,还带动了“单身经济”。

The single women's living pressure is also huge. Most of the single women in Shanghai are very busy and 57% of them work more than 8 hours a day. Four percent of women choose to be single due to their sex preference.
