M6.2 quake hits off east coast of Honshu, Japan

An earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale jolted the sea near the east coast of Honshu, Japan at 5:08 a.m. Beijing time on Saturday, said the China Earthquake Networks Center.

The epicenter, with a depth of 30 km, was determined to be at 40.3 degrees north latitude and 143.1 degrees east longitude.

This is the second strong earthquake to jolt the same area early Saturday.A magnitude-6.8 tremor hit near the east coast of Honshu at 3:26 a.m. Beijing Time Saturday, according to the center.
