Russia launches cargo spaceship

 

Russia's cargo spacecraft Progress M-13M blasted off to the International Space Station (ISS) on Sunday, said the Russian Space Agency Roscosmos.

Roscosmos' live broadcasting on its official website showed the Progress M-13M was launched from the Baikonur space center in Kazakhstan at 14:11 Moscow time (1011 GMT). The spacecraft will deliver to the ISS a scientific micro satellite "Chibis-M" and some 2.6 tons of food supplies.

According to the Roscosmos, the spacecraft is scheduled to dock with the ISS on Nov. 2.

The launch of the Progress M-13M to the ISS was the first time since the failure launch of a Progress M-12M cargo ship on Aug. 24. The Progress M-12M failed to reach the orbit due to a rocket malfunction.

Following the launch of Progress M-13M, a manned Soyuz TMA-22 with three astronauts will fly to the ISS on Nov. 14.

The launch of the Soyuz TMA-22 was initially scheduled on Sept. 22, but was postponed after the failed launch of the Progress M-12M.
