Pakistani court frees three Iranian soldiers

A Pakistani court on Saturday released of three Iranian security men, who had been arrested earlier this month after they entered Pakistani territory and killed a Pakistani national, court officials said.

The three Iranian were taken into custody by Pakistani border security force on January 1 when they crossed into the southwestern Balochistan province, officials said.

The Iranian nationals was released by district judge Qazi Rashid Imrani in Washak area of Balochistan province.

Correspondents in the region said that the freed soldiers were later handed over to Iranian border officials.

Pakistani officials said that the Iranian security men had shot dead Saeed Regi and injured his brother Salam Regi. They were charged for murder after the father of the slain Pakistani registered a murder case.

A reconciliation agreement was produced in the court on behalf of the Iranian security men and the father on the basis of blood money. The judge later ordered the release of the Iranian nationals.

The court imposed a penalty of nine thousand rupees (about 99. 67 U.S. dollars) each on the three Iranian nationals for illegal entry into Pakistani territory.

Pakistani army commanders had stated earlier that the Iranian security men had unintentionally entered Pakistani territory.

Sources said that the Iranian government had taken up the issue with Pakistani government and the officials had persuaded family of the slain man to reach a reconciliation (1 U.S dollar = 90.3 Pakistani rupees).
