Google Earth leads boy home

BBC, April 16, 2012

An Indian boy who lost his mother in 1986 has found her 25 years later while sitting in his new home in Tasmania - using satellite images, BBC reported. Saroo was only five years old when he got lost. He was travelling with his older brother while working as a sweeper on India's trains. After a fateful nap, he arrived in Calcutta and became a beggar there. He was later adopted by the Brierleys, a couple from Tasmania.

※As Saroo got older, the desire to find his birth family became increasingly strong. Soroo began using Google Earth to search for where he might have been born. Eventually he found his own home, and learned that the brother with whom Saroo had gone travelling was found dead on a railway track a month after Saroo's disappearance.
