Nine dead in Shanxi mine flood

Xinhua, April 18, 2012

Nine out of the 11 miners who got trapped in a flooded coal mine, in Shanxi Province, have been confirmed dead, Xinhua reported.

Rescuers have found nine bodies at the Shanfu Coal Mine, in Xiangyuan county of Changzhi city, which was flooded around 1 AM Friday morning. Two miners are still missing.

A total of 21 people from the mine, including the owner and the manager, have been taken into custody for interrogation, on suspicion of downplaying the accident, initially claiming that only nine miners were trapped.
