Curry lowers heart attack risk

Daily Mail, April 18, 2012

A study shows that the curry spice turmeric may help ward off heart attacks with people who have recently undergone bypass surgery, the Daily Mail reported. The operation may cause a prolonged lack of blood flow to the organ, but new findings suggest that curcumins may ease the risk of suffering a heart attack when added to traditional medication.

"Curcumin has now been shown to reduce inflammation and to reduce oxygen toxicity," commented Jawahar Mehta, a cardiologist at the University of Arkansas. The study was published in the American Journal of Cardiology.
