A Taiwan film "Seediq Bale" won the biggest award at the night, the Best Film award. The well-praised epic war film was left out in the cold on the Mainland's cinemas' screening schdules. The romance "You are the Apple of My Eye" and the Hong Kong suspense thriller "Life without Principle" both won four awards.

Actor Ching Wan Lau, winner of the Best Actor award, said that he had performed in Johnny To's productions several times, but this was the first time he had won an award for it.

Ni Ni, the starlet from Zhang Yimou's blockbuster film "The Flowers of War," won the Most Popular Actress award.
