'Pacific Rim' remains atop China's box office

Sci-fi blockbuster "Pacific Rim" continued to rule China's box office charts in the week ending on Aug. 11, grossing 491 million yuan (80.2 million U.S. dollars).

"Tiny Times 2," a sequel to domestic young-adulthood film "Tiny Times," has taken in 170 million yuan since it debuted on Aug. 8, ranking second on the charts, according to box office figures published by China Film News on Wednesday.

"Tiny Times" is a film inspired by author-turned-director Guo Jingming's novel of the same name. The film has raked in over 488 million yuan since its debut on June 27.

Action blockbuster "Fast & Furious 6," co-starring Vin Diesel and Paul Walker, took in 49.65 million yuan from Aug. 5 to 11, ranking third. Its total box office takings in China amount to 390 million yuan so far.

"One Night Surprise," a romantic comedy starring Fan Bingbing and Aarif Lee, came in fourth. It debuted on Aug. 9.

From Aug. 5 to 11, theaters nationwide received more than 15.7 million people, with a total box office of 540 million yuan.
