Shallow undersea quake strikes off East Java, Indonesia

An earthquake of 5.6 magnitude jolted East Java of Indonesia on Monday, the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency said.

The quake hit at 12 : 05 p.m. Jakarta time (0505 GMT) with epicenter at 104 km southeast Pacitan of East Java and with the depth at 10 km under sea bed, an official of the agency told Xinhua by phone.

Indonesia is prone to quake as it lies on a vulnerable quake- hit zone so called"the Pacific Ring of Fire".
