French jets destroy IS targets in Iraq's Kirkuk

Two Rafale jets, alongside coalition planes, struck on Wednesday Islamic State (IS) targets in the northern Iraq of Kirkuk, France's defense ministry said.

At around 04:30 local time (0330 GMT), French fighter jets, both armed with four missiles, targeted trenches used by IS to besiege the city, it added in a communique posted on its website.

Earlier in the day, the government's spokesman, Stephane Le Foll said France would further boost its deployment in Iraq to combat Daech fighters without elaborating.

In September, France joined United States-led military offensive against IS fighters in Iraq.
