Consumers dissatisfied at telecom carriers' cost cutting plan

More than eighty percent of web users are dissatisfied at China's three biggest telecom carriers' cost reduction plans according to an online survey.

142,000 netizens participated in the survey conducted by news channel of sohu.com, among them 82 percent express their dissatisfaction regarding the detailed plans.

They said the various clauses did not benefit consumers much. 42 percent of netizens said they were considering changing telecom carriers and 31 percent have already decided to make such a change.

One netizen called "Zhucebuliaomaning" reported China Mobile's 1 GB "evening traffic plan" (23:00pm to 7:00 am) which is priced at 10 yuan (1.6 USD) actually cost 5 yuan in the past. Many people have criticized the measures saying they were not sincere.

In line with the plans of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) to boost Internet speed and cut costs, three domestic carriers, China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom, have each provided detailed cost-cutting plans on Friday.

The detailed information as China Daily reported, are as follows, for China Unicom users, original 2G and 3G users will be authorized to upgrade to the company's 4G service and will be rewarded with a 1,000 MB Internet data coupon. For users who continue to use 2G services, the charge beyond the traffic packages has been reduced to 0.3 yuan ($0.05) per megabyte.

China Mobile introduced a new 4G SIM for mobile Internet users, with a price at 50 yuan for a 2 gigabytes Internet service. The company has also presented 1 GB "evening traffic plan"(23:00pm to 7:00 am) and 1 GB "national holiday traffic plan", both priced at 10 yuan.

The third telecom carrier China Telecom has also reduced the cost of 4G network service, with a promotional offer priced at 49 yuan for 2GB traffic used within a province.
