Taliban militants claimed responsibility for the attack on Afghan parliament on Monday.

In a statement emailed to media outlets, the hardliner outfit said a group of suicide bombers targeted the parliament while the vote for approval of the minister-designate for defense was underway.

The Taliban statement also added that clash is still going on in the parliament building.

Earlier, Kabul police chief Abdul Rahman Rahimi, in talks with media, confirmed that the attackers first detonated an explosive- laden car in front of the parliament building, enabling others to enter, but the security personnel have blocked the way and fighting is going on.
