Rainstorms have been sweeping Jiangsu and neighboring Anhui since Friday, swelling rivers and reservoirs and triggering flood alerts, leaving at least one person dead and five others missing in Anhui.
Tens of thousands of residents have been evacuated and some schools have had to close.
Flood control authorities in both provinces have ordered hydropower plants to increase their discharges of flood water in one of a number of measures taken to prevent further flooding.
