Two brothers suspected of killing two left-behind siblings on Monday night in a village in southwest China's Guizhou Province have been detained, according to The Paper.
The brothers, aged 18 and 16 respectively, were detained by police on Thursday, according to Zhang Zhongbin, uncle of the victims. He claimed that the two suspects were local villagers. The 15-year-old girl and her 12-year-old brother were found dead at home in Zhongxin village in Nayong County by their elder sister who returned home on Tuesday morning, Zhang Zhongbin told The Paper.
Authorities from the county say that investigation into the case is still ongoing.
The two siblings lost their mother a few years ago, while their father, the sole income provider is a migrant worker in Guiyang, capital of Guizhou.
The case raised public concern for the safety of "left-behind" children who are left to relatives, usually grandparents in rural areas across the country.
The city's government is vowing to establish a long-term mechanism to take care of the left-behind children.
