Sudan slams Libya for harboring rebel movement

Sudanese army on Tuesday summoned Libya's Military Attache in Khartoum in protest against the recognized Libya's harboring of forces belonging to a major rebel movement in Sudan's Darfur region.

"The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) has summoned the Libyan military attache on the background of Tobruk government's harboring of the rebels of Minni Arko Menawi's movement and supporting them with the aim to take part in the fighting alongside the forces of Maj. Gen. Haftar," Sudanese army spokesman Al-Sawarmy Khalid Saad said in a statement.

"This behavior constitutes a threat to Sudan's national security, namely in Darfur, and the national and regional security on the Sudanese-Libyan border, which encourages the rebel movements to undermine the security of the citizens via forcible recruitment, looting and robbery," he added.

He said the Sudanese army conveyed its protest and rejection to such a behavior of Tobruk government, which is regarded as "intervention in Sudan's internal affairs."

The Sudanese army further asked the Libyan government to disarm those rebel movements.

Sudan and Libya exchange accusations of backing armed groups in the two countries, where earlier Libya accused Sudan of supporting the forces of Libya's Dawn which are fighting the Libyan government recognized by the international community.
